Boat-storage prices in Wisconsin can be quoted by the foot, by the month, by the season, or by the size of an enclosed unit. Two quotes that initially look similar may cover very different storage conditions and services. A useful comparison begins with the total amount you will pay from fall drop-off through spring pickup.
Start by identifying the storage type
Outdoor parking is generally the simplest option: the boat remains on its trailer in a fenced or open lot and may need a fitted cover or shrink wrap. Covered storage adds a roof but may leave the sides exposed. Enclosed individual units offer walls and a door. Indoor seasonal storage places the boat inside a larger enclosed building with other boats or vehicles.
Each arrangement has a different cost structure. Indoor space usually costs more than uncovered outdoor parking because the building keeps direct snow, freezing rain, wind-blown debris, and prolonged sunlight off the boat. The right comparison is not simply “indoor versus outdoor.” Ask exactly where the boat will sit, whether the building is fully enclosed, what the floor surface is, and when the boat can be accessed.
Understand what “priced by the foot” means
Many seasonal facilities calculate storage using boat length. Before accepting a per-foot quote, ask which measurement controls the price. It may be the manufacturer’s stated boat length, the overall boat length including platforms or motors, or the complete boat-and-trailer length. Those measurements can differ considerably.
At Lake Geneva Boat Storage, pricing uses the manufacturer’s boat length. The boat is measured without adding the trailer length, and the trailer is stored with the boat at no additional charge. That makes the calculation easier to understand, particularly for owners whose trailers add several feet to the total rig.
Compare the full season—not a monthly headline
A monthly price may be attractive until minimum terms, move-in charges, deposits, or six separate payments are added. A seasonal quote may already cover the complete fall-to-spring period. Put every proposal on the same basis by writing down the total before tax from the scheduled drop-off through the scheduled pickup.
For the 2026–27 season, Lake Geneva Boat Storage charges $36 per lineal foot of manufacturer boat length for the full six-month indoor term. An 18-foot boat is $648 before tax; a 20-foot boat is $720; a 22-foot boat is $792; and a 25-foot boat is $900. Trailer storage is included. The online boat-storage calculator provides the current seasonal amount after you enter the boat length.
Ask what is included—and what is separate
A higher storage quote may include hauling, launch service, winterization, oil changes, battery service, detailing, shrink wrapping, spring preparation, trailer storage, or delivery. A lower quote may cover only the physical space. Neither approach is automatically better, but the services must be separated before prices can be compared honestly.
At our Elkhorn facility, the seasonal charge covers reserved indoor floor space, direct-weather protection, trailer storage, the scheduled fall drop-off, the scheduled spring pickup, and a written storage agreement. Winterization is available—please inquire—and is arranged separately from the storage price. Boats must be fully winterized before long-term storage.
Access rules affect both price and convenience
Some facilities offer regular access, individual doors, or on-demand retrieval. Others position boats closely for efficient seasonal storage and do not permit winter access. Frequent access can require more aisle space, staffing, and boat movement, which may affect the price.
Lake Geneva Boat Storage is designed for one fall drop-off and one spring pickup. Boats and vehicles are not accessible during the winter season. Owners should remove valuables, complete preparation, and retrieve anything they may need before the boat is positioned. The published seasonal schedule explains the appointment windows.
Include tax, deposits, insurance, and late-pickup terms
Ask whether sales tax is included in the displayed amount. Our calculator shows the storage price and notes an additional 5.5% county and state sales tax. Review the written agreement for any reservation payment, cancellation rule, missed-appointment charge, or amount that applies when a boat remains after the scheduled pickup.
Storage does not replace the owner’s insurance. Confirm the facility’s requirements and keep appropriate boat and trailer coverage active for the entire term. Photograph the boat before arrival and retain the agreement, payment record, and preparation notes.
